possible to remove the / or option in Windows explorer which allows access to recently viewed files in Windows etc etc

I don't know what it's called,

basically no one knows what files or application to use or install / view at any time.

You can use windows 7 manager to customise it even more and it should help with your problem

Winaero Tweeker is added.
You will find settings to enable or dissable what you want.
The only is that for 7 has less options also Win 7 Manager as Iceman suggested.

I would highly recommend downloading
Simplix UpdatePack 7 21.2.10

For any and all Windows 7 versions you install, especially if you intent to upgrade it to Windows 10.
MajorGeeks has it on their site, so you can simply look for it there, since we are not allowed to give direct links on here.
I have found it vital to install this pack, before attempting a Windows 7 to 10 upgrade.
If you get stuck in 7, with the Microsoft Tool simply attempting to do updates for 10 hours straight, to no avail... you need this update pack.
I had a customer last week, who wanted to upgrade her machine from 7 to 10. If it wasn't for this update pack, I would have not been successful.
This update pack takes FOREVER to install, so just a word of caution...do it when you have some downtime to set aside for it.

this is because of the theme (the way its made)
but i think from Winaero Tweaker you can fix it
