I love to make virtuals, but one of my dL of Windows is an iso that is not bootable.
(Checked with UltraIso)
Is there a (easy) way to make the iso bootable for the virtual
Would rather not use rufus if there is software to add a boot
Thanks
E

I took a look at Ventoy and it says to load both the ventoy program and the operating system into a usb.
I don't want usb thumb drive at all.
Was looking for something (poweriso, ultraiso, etc.) that has a setting to make a previous iso bootable.
Back in the day we would use a command, sys I think it was, but there was a slash & something else.
Don't think that could be used now.
Showing my age here :)

Thanks, I'll check it out. I know I can unrar an iso, so maybe it can be turned back into a bootable iso with the proper software maybe Poweriso can do that. Going to give ventoy and rufus a try too, just won't put everything into a usb drive. Well I know what I'll be doing for the next few weeks :) Thanks

The easiest way: Just redownload it with a bootable source.

UltraIso can do what you want in a few clicks:
1. Mount your ISO file to a virtual CD/DVD drive
2. Search this virtual CD/DVD drive for a file *.bin (usually boot*.bin)
3. Copy this file to a temp location
4. Back to UltraIso select 'Bootable' > 'Load boot file...' and select the *.bin file saved to the temp location
5. Now make sure 'Generate BootInfoTable' option is checked on UltraIso:
'Bootable' > 'Generate BootInfoTable'
6. Now 'File' > 'Save As...', give it another name and save it.
7. (... test this new saved ISO image file)

You can make a partition to place all of your ISO files and be bootable with Ventoy, ideally with SSD. But it would require you to format your SSD and delete all the partitions since Ventoy required to make VTOYEFI partition be arranged first. So, create a partition for all of your bootable ISO files, e.g. 50GB with FAT32 using Macrorit or similar partition editor (for greater compatibility of Windows Lite bootable ISOs. In my experience, exFAT caused some weird graphic rendering on Windows Setup Wizard while installing some Windows Lite), then launch Ventoy and install it on 50GB partition.

@Phrankie11 has managed to make it works, which is wonderful.

Inject with Flashdrive? That might be the first. Would you elaborate more on it? So you don't need to delete all of your SSD partitions?

@erobbins - What is the version of Windows ISO that you have? Is it 7/8/10/11?
Are you looking to make it UEFI bootable or Legacy MBR bootable or both?

It is from Teamos, and an early modded ISO. The rest I have tried, are bootable and work in virtuals. I have been resisting using a physical USB for a virtual, never tried it before, so I tried Rufus and it does work. ISO on my physical is still so much easier for VMware. Going to try the suggestions given here.
Thanks everyone, appreciate it!
