Hi @Wim77

If you say "PXE already running", I suppose that you have :

I) SETTINGS
- a shared folder for PXE
- a user having read access only to this folder
- TFTP activated with a root folder (shared folder for PXE)
- you have activated DHCP Server with a range of IP addresses
- you specified a "kernel" as for example pxelinux.0

II) WINDOWS TOOLS
- you have to install Windows ADK (for example windows 10 ADK buil 1809) : adksetup.exe
Select only Deployment Tools, it's enough
- you have to install Windows PE (Windows PE add-on for ADK) : adkwinpesetup.exe
Select Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE)

Have you these tools installed ?

I'll give you more information...

What DSM version have you ?

Regards

Hello

Thank you for helping me

what i have done

I) SETTINGS all done
II) WINDOWS TOOLS i have installed on my computer all the tools

I followed now this guy
:rr: DO NOT POST VIDEOS OR CLICKABLE LINKS

so i have created a WinPE.iso and label to the default

LABEL Windows 10 64 bits
kernel memdisk
append iso raw initrd=images/WinPEx64.iso

-----
so the PXE is running fine , i get a menu where i can select what i want to boot/install but when i select the above label he says loading and then restarting the pc and nothing happens

So i have no idea what goes after that , i have been reading over the internet and doing what everyone is saying but still i do something wrong
i have tried also other WinPe.iso files that i have found on the internet but the same problem as this one

so do you have a idea what i am doing wrong ?

My DSM
DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 6

@Wim77

I watched this video. That's what I was saying. You can't install with this iso.
I'm going to prepare a little tutorial and the links to enable you to download tools.
The download links will be in the "conversations" in the right top of page just in the right of your user name.

BEFORE ALL : if I can answer to this post, it's thanks to Jamyz and two french nas forums.

What do we need :
1) if you got WinPEx64.iso ==> this means that you already installed Windows tools
Windows ADK (for example windows 10 ADK buil 1809) : adksetup.exe
Windows PE (Windows PE add-on for ADK) : adkwinpesetup.exe

2) Jamyz tools : I'ill give you a link to downlod it to unrar or unzip
Copy all files and folders (except the folder Lisez-moi et Outils) at the PXE root on the NAS
3) two scripts with windows commands and a folder to copy C:\
CreateCustomBCD_WinPE_BIOS_AND_UEFI_X86_X64.cmd
CreateWinPE10_x86_x64.cmd
PXEServerTools

What to do after :

In the folder PXEServerTools you'll find a folder Startnet with a commands file startnet.cmd
this script enable you to prepare install menu and settings. I'll give you mine and you'll modfy according to your needs.

search for the command
C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe /k "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Deployment Tools\DandISetEnv.bat"
and launch it.
type cd c:\
launch CreateCustomBCD_WinPE_BIOS_AND_UEFI_X86_X64.cmd
search for the command
C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe /k "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Deployment Tools\DandISetEnv.bat"
and launch it.
type cd c:\
launch CreateWinPE10_x86_x64.cmd

There are 2 menus : 1 when booting on the NAS and 1 for installing windows.

I'll complete later.

Don't forget, links will be in your conversations

Since you will take this to a Private conversation, I think it's time to close this thread and I would add a small bit to what @leperdu said, which is 100% right.

PXE is not as easy as a USB boot thumb drive and it's not meant to substitute that. You just don't download an ISO and set it as a PXE image and off you go. To make things worse it takes a bit more steps (and network knowledge) to serve a windows image via a Linux PXE Server such as the one your NAS uses and different if you have used Windows Deployment Services (WDS) from a windows server (or use a simple PXE mini server from any windows version). With Linux, you will need TFTP and Samba configured for the WIN PE method to work. At this point, I would say that WDS would be faster to set but that means you cant use NAS.

The general step is that you need to PXE a Window PE ISO, which essentially is a diskless ISO image that in turn will use a network share (this is where samba comes) to pull the files from Synology and start the installation of ANY windows ISO you might have. In order to do that you must prepare some things in advance which is what @leperdu is telling you.

See the issue here is not the PXE itself, but the fact that you want to use your NAS to do that, and I think the best way for that is to check the Synology forum and see what others say and have done.

Sadly tho we are just a torrent site and topics like this are kinda out of our scope. I left this open in case someone had a Synology and used it in that way so they would help you but for now, I will have to close this thread and wish you the best of luck.

Between you and me, it's easier to set up a small PC for WDS (google about it) or use a small PXE server on any windows (also many guides online) and use NAS as network share for windows ISO or to server Linux ISO if need be or use as a boot environment for diskless PCs if there is such a need.
