I am trying yo understand and get my head around this problem.

I have an exe file, which LOOKS clear and sharp when the application is maximized over the screen, about 1024x720p. But when you extract the icon using any tool, the exe only contains the 256x256 icon.

I did a bit research and it looks like the for any .ico, the max is 256x256. But windows seem to be able to "read" it as high resolution.

So the problems is, how can I extract this icon, and still make it "High resolution"? At the moment, I have tried a few tools, but the best I can get is the 256x256 ico and they all look small and blur when you maximize it over the screen.

i was thinking the same thing, you can not open an ico and expect it to be full sized and not blurred and pixelated these icons are designed to be small for well exactly what there meant for an icon nothing else

But just from the EXE, when I launch it, the icon/picture is window size, which is clear/sharp. When I use full screen, it is also clear and sharp. What could the reason be?

It is presented as an icon/picture. And using a lot of extraction tool, the best I can see is a 256x256 icon....

OMG!

I changed the icon and now it is clear that the icon I see have no effect ...

The "background" was literally pieced together by 20x30=600 smaller pieces... and together with the system font ect...

Ingenious design ...
