In Windows, a user can use Windows Firewall to block or unblock specific applications, but it does not offer an easy-to-use interface for its advanced features. If a user wants to prevent an application from accessing the internet, they must go through the following steps:
1. Click the Windows Start Menu and open Control Panel;
2. Select System & Security;
3. Then in the Firewall section, a user needs to select "Allow a program through the Windows Firewall";
4. If the program user wishes to block or unblock is not listed, they must click "Allow another program" to add it. Choose the application in the list and select "Add."
Else user must then browse the hard drive to find it, and so on.
This procedure seems complicated for the average user. Firewall App Blocker makes the process very easy! Just drag and drop the application user wish to block into the FAB window, or browse the hard disk to find it. If a user wants to allow it access again, right click on it and choose "Allow" or select it and press the Delete button.
FAB also offers CMD support.
- FIXED – Add a folder feature does not support shortcuts;
- FIXED – If the firewall is closed, added icons seems to be blocked;
- FIXED – In whitelist mode MS Edge continues to establish standard connections to the Internet (Need extra step);
- FIXED – FAB cannot remove old versions Context Menu registry entries accurately.
In this version there are some extra features on the Firewall menu, including "White List Mode," Block internet, Restrict Firewall Options, etc.
White List Mode
It will block everything except on the whitelisted items, to activate it tick the "Enable WhiteList" box on the right bottom corner. The Whitelist mode denies access to all network interfaces. After enabling WhiteList Mode drag and drop an application/s on the "Firewall Application Blocker" interface.
How to Block MS EDGE internet connection Properly:
To block Microsoft EDGE properly use "Disable_EdgeRule.bat" provided in the downloaded zip file and then use Firewall Application Blocker (FAB). Click on Add Process button to add Microsoft EDGE icons on the FAB interface.
To add an Outbound or Inbound Firewall Rules separately, use One of the Bottom left buttons, shown below are Firewall Application Blocker file and Options menus.
Supported Operating Systems:
OS: Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (both 32 & 64-bit).
Supported Languages:
English, Turkish, German, French, Brazilian Portuguese, Greek, Italian, Polish, Persian, Russian, Dutch, Spanish, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, Finnish, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Slovenian, Arabic, Vietnamese.
Install notes:
1. Unzip and run;
2. Enjoy!
Note: Firewall App Blocker does not change Windows Firewall default settings. If the user uses third-party security software or a 3rd party firewall like Avast, Comodo or similar, they can disable Windows Firewall. Firewall App Blocker runs correctly only if the Windows Firewall is ENABLED!
