I've been trying to install W7 Super Lite from USB, but everytime I use Rufus or any other tool, something goes wrong. First it talks about missing .dll files. I fixed that by extracting files from the sources folder from boot.wim. Now, it keeps talking about configuring flag 9 in boot.wim. Did I do something wrong?

I'm trying to install it to an old PC that I have, to breathe some life into it. Do you know how to remedy the problem?

that could happen if you're trying to install that old W7 version (stripped to the bone) to some new laptop/pc.

please, give me the link of the version of w7 you are trying to install... it would be nice to post here some pictures (when asking) with the error messages....

ok, i think you're doing something wrong - there is no way you couldn't do bootable USB drive with the rufus.... did that xx-times... maybe you are trying to make GPT-bootable? if you have time, make picture by picture screenshots of what are you doing and then upload them to lookimg - maybe i could detect what went wrong :(

i'm going to try this right now... please wait, i have to download w7...

are you going into bios and telling it to boot from usb ? i have run this 3 time now and not 1 error.
only way i can force error from this is from trying to upgrade within windows you need to be doing fresh install by telling tour computer bios to boot from usb

You need to enable booting from non-EFI devices. This option can be found in most BIOSs called the Compatibility Support Module or CSM. This option is sometimes hidden until you disable Secure Boot. I've also seen it hidden until Fast Boot is disabled. Once you enable the CSM module and set it to boot EFI + Legacy boot devices you shouldn't have any trouble booting your USB device.

shutdown you pc
goto bios setting->advanced bios settings
change your boot order to your usb save and restart your pc
if u still face the problems follow @Jugoexpress instructions
if you did it the same way ignore my comment...

Question: Is your machine even capable of booting from USB?
Posting the specs of your Windows XP machine would help alot.

Sorry for long reply.
SPECS:
Dell Optiplex GX260
Intel Pentium 4 2800MHz
1 GB RAM
40 GB HDD
Integrated Video

I've seen people run W7 on this machine. Maybe it's the PC causing the problem?

Does this pc have a optical (cd/dvd) drive? Because I looked up the detailed specs for your machine, and it's a lot like my old desktop, which came with XP. I had to burn windows 7 to a DVD to install it. You may have to do the same.

Use Re-Writable DVD(can be re-used) instead of DVD-R..Use Ashampoo Burning Studio to burn it to DVD

I found a W7 Ultimate Installation Disc, and I currently have it installed on the system now. I guess I have to get a DVD-RW to install the Super Lite Version.
