"Having an antivirus application is a good precaution for unwanted malware. However, as mentioned by 'LiveFreeDead' Norton falls short of proactively stopping the various avenues by which malicious software can effect our PC's. It was however a very good product 20 years ago but has declined in functionality and service over the years compared to other products on the market.
If you are interested, there are two products that are proactively better then Norton (at present) that I can recommend; Kaspersky Internet Security and Avira Internet Security. Both function very well and allow customization for different available services within the product.

@Redolent kaspersky is a fantastic product and rain's thread isn't that old. the other one though not so mush, and the thread is dated dec 1, 2016.
