USB Raptor can lock the system once a specific USB drive is removed from the computer and unlock when the drive is plugged in again to any USB port. The utility checks regularly the USB drives for the presence of a specific unlock file with encrypted content. If this particular file is found, the computer stays unlocked otherwise the computer locks. To release the system lock user must plug the USB with the data in any USB port. Alternative, the user, can enable (or disable) two additional ways to unlock the system, such as a network messaging or password.

USB Raptor transforms the user's USB drive into a security key for locking and unlocking personal computers by merely removing the USB device from its port. Configuring the application is not difficult at all since all the options are clear and accessible. The USB flash drive must be connected to the computer for USB Raptor to identify the USB key, serial number.

Users start by assigning a password to the USB device and creating a lock file that will be stored on the removable drive. Each time a flash drive is connected to the computer, USB Raptor will search for this key in order to unlock the PC. There are two lock modes that the user can choose from, namely "System lock" and "USB Raptor lock." Users can instruct the application to use a random color for the lock screen and periodically change it, mute the PC volume during a lockdown and add a 5 seconds delay to cancel the task during this time interval.

Unlocking the computer is automatically done when the user inserts the correct USB flash drive, provided USB Raptor is armed. Alternatively, the user can configure the application to allow unlocking with a master key by sending a valid network unlocking message to a user computer or by entering the previously set password on the lock screen.

With the help of USB Raptor user's USB flash drive can become a security key for its computer, not allowing access to files while the user is away. To avoid random lockdowns, it also offers alternative unlocking methods. For security reasons, access to the USB Raptor's interface can also be password-protected to prevent others from modifying passwords or settings.
