i tried to use the search bar, but apparently info has is far too common to give a result. im trying to check the hash on this torrent file i downloaded, but it doesnt say if its an sha-1, sha-256, md-5, etc...

what is the checksum algorithm i should be comparing it to?

yeah, i was going through all the checksum algorithms HxD had on-file, well....almost all of them, my eyes started to hurt manually comparing the hash by a few lines so i stopped half-way

what kind of checksum is it?

BitTorrent uses SHA-1, which returns a 160-bit hash.
The bittorrent protocol splits the data into chucks for transmission. Each chunk is hashed separately.

The “infohash” is the SHA1 Hash over the part of a torrent file that includes:
  1. ITEM: length(size) and path (path with filename)
  2. Name: The name to search for
  3. Piece length: The length(size) of a single piece
  4. Pieces: SHA1 Hash of EVERY piece of this torrent
  5. Private: flag for restricted access

if those are the hashes for the iso file....then either my download was corrupted or not because HxD isnt returning those very same ones. maybe something to do witrh how both softwares calculate the hashes?

I wouldn't expect a file checksum utility to work correctly on a torrent.
Read the links I gave you and you'll see why.

I don't know why you want to check a torrent or the data downloaded by a torrent client. The torrent client does the checking for you.
If the client indicates a completed download then the chances of an error are infinitesimal.
